北宋時期就生長在綠島18米海底，高約13公尺，圓周約11公尺長，聳立在石朗浮潛區右側，研判壽命已有一千兩百歲，是全球現存最大最長壽的團塊微孔珊瑚。

大香菇聳立在石朗浮潛區右側，南寮灣水深二十公尺海底，距離南寮漁港不到五十公尺，離石朗浮潛步道約300公尺左右，屬於團塊形微孔珊瑚群體，高約13公尺，圓周約11公尺長，是世界級單顆體型最大的活體珊瑚，超過一千年歷史，係屬非常珍貴之珊瑚，當地人稱之為「大香菇」。

大香菇基座位於18公尺深沙質海底，底部砂質厚度平均20-60公分左右，再下去是安山岩盤。底座到頂部高度10公尺，頂部距離水面約8公尺，鐘型微孔珊瑚生長緩慢，每年約以1公分左右往水面方向生長，從高度推估大香菇已有1000歲。

體長可達9公分，觸角及外鰓為淡藍色，上面有許多白點。

身體周緣為白色，中央為淡藍色，淡藍色外圍為藍黑色環帶，身體中央有一些黑色斑點及短縱線。

腹部兩邊也有縱斑及縱走帶。棲息於珊瑚礁區淺海，以海綿為食。

分布於關島、臺灣、菲律賓、澳洲等西太平洋熱帶海域。臺灣分布於蘭嶼、綠島。

大香菇潛點附近有三個輪胎礁體，聚集相當數量的網紋雀鯛，與品種獨特的海葵，以及令人目眩神迷的擬刺尾鯛（藍倒吊），附近有一尾清水石斑魚，對潛水人很友善，長度約65公分。

為刺參科梅花參屬的動物。身體長可達1米；背面肉刺很大，每3-11個肉刺基部相連呈花瓣狀，所以得名「梅花參」。

因為體形像鳳梨，所以又稱 #鳳梨參；腹面平坦，管足小而密布；口稍偏於腹面，周圍有20個觸手；背面為橙黃色或橙紅色，散布黃色和褐色斑點，腹面帶赤色，觸手黃色。
